I first met Edith Wairumu (John Njane’s and Chris Thiongo’s niece) in 2013 and was impressed with her determination. She stayed in my mind and heart, so three years later on a return trip to Kenya I wrote her a letter promising that I would raise support for her to enter High School near Thika, Kenya. Financial support continues to be needed to pay her school fees. If this tugs at your heart, or feel moved to sponsor her through High School, please contact me.
This is he story: Her parents were happily married with six children when tribal warfare as the result of the 2007 elections destroyed the well-being of their family. The father left, leaving his wife, Feristah with the kids. She got sick and depressed as a result of the stress, contracted malaria and died a year later. Fortunately John Njane’s family took the kids into the family compound, and looked after them.
Edith has now entered High School and is highly motivated by the support she has received. This is an opportunity for Edith to move into her full potential.
Update: Edith is in a new High School and thriving. When she is finished she wants to study to become a teacher!
